Hope for Homophobic Culture Warriors

Luckily, according to gay scientists, there may soon be a cure for this sad condition:



And even if there is no cure for homophobia, finally and at last we may be witnessing the end of the culture wars!

Divisions on “values” questions will not disappear, but they will be far less important to voters and campaigns.

Just four years ago, we were arguing over whether Bush was reelected primarily because of his strong support from voters who told the exit pollsters that “moral values” had guided their decisions. We parsed the political preferences of those who attend religious services frequently and those who never go — and found the former group rather staunchly Republican, the latter strongly Democratic. It was 1928 all over again. Culture and religion ruled.

In truth, Bush’s victory rested both on 9/11 and on enthusiasm from religious voters. But what’s most important is that 2004, like 1928, is destined to be the last in a long line of contests in which culture and religion proved central to the outcome."

Hey, guess what?

A new "psychiatric diagnosis" (its a joke folks) finally describes what we already know:

Homophobes are really mentally deranged gay people who hate themselves so much they need to punish the rest of us for having the courage to live openly!

According to this article in RainbowZine:

"Homosexia nervosa is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a sexual orientation disorder characterized by extremely low self esteem and sexual orientation image distortion with an obsessive fear of same sex attraction."

There is a real study that is currently underway, called the 'Molecular Genetic Study of Sexual Orientation' which is claiming to be the "most extensive study yet to search for a genetic basis for homosexuality."

By gathering and studying DNA samples from 1,000 sets of gay brothers, researchers hope to prove a genetic predetermination for being gay.

If we can prove once and for all we are born gay, then that may be an immediate cure for legal inequality AND the underlying cause of it -- Homosexia nervosa!

And, maybe then we can all relax and live and let live.

Hopefully our Presidential Candidates will read up on the latest research before taking positions that rely on negative stereotypes, outdated science and mental disorders.

FEAR: The Great Persuader

Broadly defined, 'homophobia' is a term used to describe discrimination in word, deed or attitude against members of the LGBTQ Community. It is often associated with HATRED of queer people in general.

But the suffix of the word is 'phobia' -- which literally means fear. And, according to Wikipedia, "fear is a distressing emotion caused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc, especially dread to meet or experience the danger".

So, in reality, homophobes do not so much HATE us as they FEAR us. And, as you know, fear leads to anger, which leads to hate which leads to suffering and discrimination and violence and...

Homophobia is just one brand of fear being sold in America today. It seems that today, fear has permeated our entire culture:

• Fear of terrorists and terrorism

• Fear of Hell

• Fear of Death

• Fear of Muslims

• Fear of 'Illegal Immigrants'

• Fear of imports

• Fear of... each other

Fear is a perfect tool for manipulating society in order to further an agenda that would otherwise be unattainable.

The Bush Crime Family are master fear peddlers. They have managed to grab more power and money for themselves and their neo-con minions than even they could have imagined in their wildest dreams.

They have eviscerated the Constitution and weakened the Republic more effectively than Osama bin Ladin could ever have accomplished by bombing cities or flying airplanes into buildings.

And yet, because we are afraid, we let them get away with it.

Dorothy Thompson once said that "the most destructive element in the human mind is fear."

And Bush is at it again. He is on a furious campaign to frighten us with lies that tie al Qaeda with September 11. He wants to scare you into supporting his illegal war. He hopes you will agree to give up more of your freedoms. He wants you to unquestioningly let him torture, spy and imprison. He hopes you will be too frightened to care as he, Cheney and Rove manipulate the system so there are no checks and balances and until the Republican Party and the neo-cons can freely dominate American policy for many years to come.

We need to wake up! It's time to come out from under the bed and face the fact that the only thing we have to fear is our own stupidity, our own gullibility and our own willingness to be enslaved and intimidated by governmental and corporate propaganda!
